About us

The Ben Lomond Homestead dates back 120 years to the early pioneering days of the Southern Lakes district. Originally farming 38,000 acres of daunting hill country, today the property is a manageable 21 acres and the homestead still has parts dating back to 1892.

The Mannerswood family have owned the property since 1978. Shane, who has a life long love of gardening ,decided to plant a lavender field in 1998. After consultation with the Redbank Food and Crop Research Station at Clyde and other growers she planted out half an acre with five different varieties. Being passionate about the quality of oils to be produced, the lavender is grown organically.

The Central Otago area provides a good growing environment with it's hot dry summers. In the winter the snow falls do not effect the plants or the quality of the oils.

Ben Lomond Lavender is a member of the New Zealand Lavender Growers Association and our oil has been tested to internationally recognized standards.

Our shop is surrounded by display gardens in which you can enjoy the sweet perfume of the lavender plants. All our products are naturally preserved to ensure the organic philosophy flows through with integrity.
